START-UP BUSINESS
FOOD AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRY  |  SMALL BUSINESS (2 employees)

This brand identity campaign won a “Best of Show” award at the 2018 American Advertising Awards, moved on to place Silver in the District AAAwards, and then to national competition. You can read more on that story here. >

MicroGirl’s start-up story is one of being in the right place at the right time. When relocating to her new home in Dubuque, Iowa in 2015, owner Laura found a city she loved but she missed having her own expansive garden space. One day she made a chance connection with a local chef who had recently started up his own scratch-kitchen restaurant in town — and he was in need of some locally-grown greens for his culinary creations. Laura jumped at the opportunity, and began growing microgreens for Chef Kevin in the windowsill of her home. She became passionate about learning all she could about the tiny greens’ uniqueness and character.

Laura began to deliver her microgreens of Dubuque’s best-loved local restaurants, but knew her materials needed a more professional look if they wanted to take their business to the next level. I worked Laura and her work partner strategize their priorities, and helped establish a brand look that brought about the character and uniqueness of the business. MicroGirl now has the building blocks of a great-looking brand, seen in their retail packaging, stationery, collateral, website and more.

“Jill invested in understanding my story, business, and product to develop a brand identity that is a true expression of who we are. What made working with Jill so much fun was the collaboration of ideas and desires. Through our conversations, I was able to see my ideas and thoughts come to life!”

– Laura Klavitter, Owner, MicroGirl
